Some politician pulls cash out of the Treasury that has been quietly taken from all these same people, then appropriates it for the repair of the Washington Monument.

The politician, who has not put one nickel of his own money into this, gets his picture taken and receives the praise of a grateful public. Maybe even a plaque with his name on it.

For a good time, look around at all the things that have a politician's name on it. Things built with wealth created by the private sector (assuming it wasn't borrowed or printed) and confiscated to enhance the prestige of politicians and tighten their grip on power.
