That was one of the objections to Active SETI sending signals
Active SETI has been heavily criticized due to the perceived risk of revealing the location of the Earth to alien civilizations, without some process of prior international consultation
If you could go 'off-world', it would not be cowardice to safeguard your origin, it would be common sense.
There was a "Twilight Zone" episode that scared the hell our of me when I was a kid.
Aliens had sent transmissions containing instructions for building a teleporter. We constructed it and they sent though one of their scientists, a crabbed clawed slimy blob with legs. It escaped custody and planted spores of blob food which quickly grew. We soon saw it sucking the goo from its claw with what evidently was it's mouth.
From that point, it was "game over" for the Earth.
