Looks to me like a transparent attempt to deflect the Maher/Pac controversy.
Makes two mistakes: First, it assumes nobody will notice the attempt for what it is, and second, it uses a "dog-whistle" (the Swift Boat connection) that is only audible to loyal Democrats anyway.
