Another problem is that a JPG color photo of that resolution would run anywhere from 750K to 1 MB, depending on the compression.

No such thing as too much memory if images are what you use an IPad for.
There's a micro-sim installation in an IPad, but I think it's about cell phone connection, not additional memory.
