The problem arises from a hypothetical situation, where we have a one square mile slab of granite and we have a pressure difference of 7.32 lb. per sq. inches on the sides.
The higher pressure is on the bottom and the lower pressure is on the top.
The question is; how thick must the slab be, so that the pressure difference does not lift (move) the slab.
One square mile contains 4.015*10^9 sq. inches, and according to podrock, the density of granite is approximately 0.1 pounds per cubic inch.
