Poor or unsuccessful Conservatives need someone to blame for their misfortune. They can't admit to anyone else they may not have what it takes to "make it", and they can't admit to themselves that they've been conned and swindled by the very heroes and system they worship. So they need their scapegoat, and the demagogues are only too happy to provide one--or several.
The blacks, the foreigners, the aliens, the liberals, the Communists, the MSM, the intellectuals--they all serve the purpose of generic bogeyman. The Joe Sixpack version of "The Man".
