Re: Debunkers!!! On your mark...

It looks like a light. A moving light.

That's about all you can say about it, if the videos are legit and not hoaxes, then all we really know is that it is a light capable of incredibly fast acceleration to phenomenal speeds, something our technology cannot duplicate, hovering stationary over one spot, a site of great religious significance to those of the monotheistic persuasion.

So if we rule out a deliberate hoax, then it can be one of several things.

It might be machine of some sort (the usual explanation of a UFO), either a spacecraft from an extraterrestial civilization, a time machine, or a visitor from another dimension (whatever that means). Or it might be some new technology that has been developed in secret here on earth.

It could be some unusual natural phenomenon, such as a peculiar energy life form, or some weird mirage or projection, an internal camera artifact, either natural or man-made, deliberate or accidental. Perhaps it is some kind of oddbal meteorological phenomenon.

The fact it occurs over an important religious site suggests it is some sort of spiritual or divine manifestation. This is perhaps the least believable of all the hypotheses. If God wanted to tell us something, why not just tell us, all at once in some spectacular and unmistakeable fashion? Surely God would know another Youtube UFO sighting hardly lifts an eyebrow anymore. He's going to have to do better than that. And He, of all people, should know that.

In short, we haven't got a clue as to what it is. But the easiest, most likely explanation, the one that involves the least number of assumptions, "what-ifs", guesses, speculations or hopes, is that it is a hoax. Sure, I can't prove its a hoax, and if its a hoax its a very clever and elaborate one, but I can prove all the other guesses even less, so its most likely a hoax.

What else do you want me to say? Cue the theremin music and roll my eyes reverently to space and mutter something like Hamlet's admonition to Horatio about the shortcomings of his philosophy?

The important thing to keep in mind is that perhaps its none of the above, something I haven't thought of, and not necessarily cosmic or mysterious, either, but which if told to me I would slap my forehead and say "Now why didn't I think of that?"
