Inane spending. The last time the US was invaded was in 1811 by England. There WAS Pearl Harbor and WTC, but those were not serious military affairs, and at least WTC could have been prevented.
However, here's a reference on American military spending. All of that is to maintain an empire for the richest corporations in the world. It is not for national defense.
