I'd keep it bowser. There are plenty of web pages including facebook that show you how to "lock it down" using permissions. It's not too difficult.
Don't use anything (apps) that tells it's going to use all your info. At least they warn you.
Last night I saw a friend of a friend that was a childhood friend of mine. We fished together regularly in a small stream in our hometown. I see from his fb page he is an avid steelhead fisherman.
FB is a nice diversion in my opinion.
