who desperately doesn't want to believe that there are intelligent beings in the galaxy besides us, and that they are visiting earth.

But the UFO "evidence" is so silly, so pathetic, and so impossible to follow up on, that it infuriates us. If there were any real evidence of UFO sightings out there, it would be covered up by the level of nonsense that passes for proof. It would be impossible to tell the real from the phony.

I think this is why the reaction against the 'traditional' UFO reports is so violent and outraged from all the science weenies. Its not that we don't want to believe, its that we hate having our intelligence and our common sense insulted, and how so many otherwise good people fall for these lies and mistake skepticism for outright rejection.

It also explains our reaction to religion, and other paranormal and psychic and anomalous explanations of the world. Just because there are presents under the Christmas tree doesn't mean there has to be a Santa Claus.

Just because I don't know what something is, doesn't mean it has to be what they think it is. And when I only have the word of the witness to go on, usually someone who almost never looks at the sky...I just can't take it seriously.
