This is a classic mechanism for evading a moral contradiction. The True Believer is faced with an impossible paradox. To be forced to carry to term a pregnancy initiated by rape is morally intolerable and repulsive, but to allow abortion opens the door to blanket encouragement of fornication: the slippery slope to sex outside of marriage for pleasure. We've seen it before, regulating the trade of the latest military-type firearms imperils our god-given right to defend our country from tyrants, foreign invaders, and burglars.
In this case, the dilemma is resolved by imagining a mechanism that allows good girls who get raped a moral way out, while sluts who enjoy it have to endure the consequences. Any rumor, distortion, out-of-context opinion, or even sheer myth is quickly seized on to justify this monstrous perversion of belief. If she got knocked up, its her fault, and she probably enjoyed it, too. She needs to be punished by having the baby; that's what God wants.
Still, religious fundamentalism is prone to this sort of thing, this is really not all that different from the honor killings of Muslim tribesmen who feel that if a female family menber is raped she must be punished by death for allowing it to happen.
What is particularly repulsive is not that these savages actually believe this. Savages, after all, will be savages. The true criminals are those who may not share these extreme beliefs, but who make excuses for them because they need the savages as a political constituency. There is no excuse for these cynical opportunists and moral hypocrites. They willingly ally themselves with these Neanderthals because it will allow them to further their own political and economic agendas. They cover for them, look the other way, and change the subject whenever it is brought up. After all, they may be religious fanatics (or racists, or homophobes), but at least they're not for socialized medicine.
Like the "Good Germans", who tolerated and encouraged the Nazis because they were a useful counter to Red extremists, they may one day find out the hard way that this is one political fornication for which no contraception or abortion can replace total abstinence.
