An elected, sitting VP can't be fired.
He or she can, as with the president, be impeached and tried, and if convicted will be removed from office.
The deal Agnew got was that if he resigned he would not be put on trial and inevitably be impeached and convicted. I think he got out of any jail time, and had a modest fine.
But he wasn't "fired".
