George Romney's family were Mormon refugees from the Mexican Revolution in 1910, leaving their property behind and fleeing to Texas. They were on relief in El Paso for a few months before Romney's father found work in Los Angeles as a carpenter.
Anyone thinking this is relevant to the current welfare state discussion has brain damage. I already know Stewart has brain damage.
Anyway, I found the rest of the biography to be interesting reading. Others might, too.
