The Democrats and their allies are whirling around like bees from a tipped over hive.

Their takeaway points:

- Romney is the mightiest debater to walk the face of the earth since Lincoln.

- Obama is just too busy being the greatest president to walk the face of the earth since Lincoln to properly prepare.

- Debates don't really mean anything in an election anyway.

Obama has been focusing his public appearances on highly sympathetic and intellectually harmless interviewers and audiences. Even in the debates, the moderators will be leaning in his direction. But a lot of people are going to be seeing the candidates unfiltered by news editors. And they do a lot of filtering.

When that whole 47 percent thing blew up, I think what really pissed the Democrats and media off was that prior to this, there were probably not all that many people outside of political wonks who were aware of how many Americans got by without paying income taxes.
