It's also tough. Life is tough. Every moment we are faced with adversity of some kind. We try our best, and even if we fail we learn stuff. I remember how excited I was when I got my first car at 17. It was a POS, somewhat rusty and the engine had a slight rod-knock - but it was mine! I was the owner. I had bought it with money I had earned with my labor. I put a lot of love into it those first weeks. I cleaned it out, vacuumed it, washed it repeatedly and made the small repairs I could do. I personalized that car. It was an extension of me. I took it out on Friday and Saturday nights, even going on a few dates in it. I had a lot of fun and at the time it was the greatest thing ever. Eventually, as the problems piled up, I recognized it was a money-pit and not worth restoring and moved on to better ones.
We do the same thing with our viewpoints. We invest a lot of ourselves into them. A new awareness is an epiphany and we relish our new perspective. Over time, however, we will be dissatisfied with it. We will want even more and we will someday gladly give up a viewpoint for another one.
Now that I know the process, I don't get too attached or too vested into any viewpoint. I know someday it will fall apart on me and need revisions or replacement. ;D
