The People's Republic of California will go for the Democrat come hell or high water, and I live in an urban area that is pretty solid blue as far as local elections go.
My state senate ballot has two Democrats on it, thanks to the new primary rules. The eternal dream of the Democratic Party is to have free elections that will never change who's in control, and California is testing this idea out.
But other races have a Republican running, and there are also important propositions in play. The tough decisions for me (requiring the most research) are usually things like the school board and council races. Things like the local college board I sometimes just skip.
