Your friend must be very well informed on this issue.
Ask him if anything is known about Iraqi troops with similar symptoms to the one he is experiencing. They were fighting on the same battlefield our boys were in. Did Iraqi civilians suffer from it? Did our rear-echelon support troops get the symptoms, is there any difference between combatants and non-combatants? If it is something in the environment then these would be clues to help nail it down.
