What this is all about is to attempt to re-establish the GOP claim as the party of national defense and security. With Obama and the Democrats growing street creds due to Bin Ladin, drones and the pirates, not to mention that whatever happens with Iran, if its good, will be all on the Dems, the Republicans are desperate to reclaim that piece of their policy "expertise". And now that they've lost Colin Powell and Gen. Petraeus, they need to nail down that corner of the roof before it all blows away.

Meanwhile, Obama is thinking long term, setting up a defense relationship with Myanmar, thinking long term about the long term pawn game with China down the line. No one saw that coming. I bet we'll have a Naval Support Facility in Vietnam pretty soon, too.

That's what the big push to smear Ambassador Rice is all about, and the whole Libya thing, too. No body but the true believers cares. Remember, they don't need to win this, all they need is to get a conspiracy theory thing going on Fox and the Right-wing press.
