It was hardly visible by naked eye
I picked it out on one occasion but I have no doubt it was unnoticed by most folks on the planet. I'm sure it was awesome viewed by a telescope.
My Dad talked about Halley's all of his life, It made a passage in 1910 before he was born and it must have been quite a show, based on his second hand impressions. It came next in 86 after he died.
He would have been disappointed.
