One additional tidbit.

Such was the Japanese regard for the Emperor that had the Allies stuck with unconditional surrender which implied the Emperor would be put to death there would not have been a surrender no matter how many bombs were dropped.

Not until the Emperor told them they were surrendering could it happen, and even then, even after the A-bombs, there were many in the country who tried to stop it.
