Space tourism will only be profitable when tourists hitchhike with freight
When someone determines that the cost of getting wherever is exceeded by the value of what can be retrieved, we will be on our way to the stars.
Space elevator? maybe, but that will be one helluva public works project, even with a lot of private funding.
