The last great conspiracy I remember about was the Newtown Truthers, who believe the shootings were part of a Liberal plot to take away our guns. There was a whole host of conspiracies around Obama, and his parentage and background, and they certainly haven't gone away.

But the mother of all conspiracies was the original Truthers: That George W Bush blew up the World Trade Center so he would have an excuse to invade the Middle East and impose the Patriot Act.

That one takes the prize for sheer chutzpah. Only "The moon landings were staged" even comes close.

The assassination of JFK was also real a boon for the conspiracy industry. His killing has been blamed on right wing conspirators, left wing conspirators, Fidel Castro, anti-Castro Cubans, the Russians, the Mafia, the CIA, J. Edgar Hoover and Lyndon Johnson. Only Bigfoot and the UFO aliens got left out of the circle of suspects.
