The liquor smuggling racket disappeared when Prohibition was abolished in 1933, marijuana was declared illegal four years later.

Do you really think that was a coincidence?

Those who insist on criminalizing the weed are supporting narcoterrorism by making it a more valuable commodity than it would normally be.

In fact, it has long been rumored among dopers that narcotraffickers contribute heavily to the political campaigns of vocal anti-drug legislators. It is also rumored that it is politically more beneficial to run on a strident War on Drugs platform than to champion some more important, but less sexy, cause.

And of course, the enormous but futile drug-fighting governmental apparatus we have erected to fight the drug war has now become a constituency of its own, with all the companies lawyers and agencies profitting from the governmental funding we squander on it lobbying mightily to maintain the current state of affairs.
