You probably could.
But you'd have to cut it to just the right length, then drill holes in it and put in bolts and nuts to anchor the straps to, and you'd still have to anchor the straps onto the hinges in such a way they could be easily and quickly removed, and you'd need special u-clamps at the top and bottom, and it would be heavy, non-transferable to another house, hard to store, and...
