My first stepfather participated in cockfighting, and my second stepfather actually bred and sold fighting cocks for the arena. The former is illegal in Florida, the second is not (as long as the birds are exported to a country where it IS legal, like Puerto Rico). But even though I have witnessed cockfights, I never felt any particular desire to get involved. Cockfighting, by the way, is popular with Crackers as well as Latins in Florida. The former have been followers of the sport at least since the settlement of Appalachia, and probably in the British Isles way prior to that.
Does that count?
I used to be an avid salt-water fisherman, and a few years ago I decided I didn't want to do it any more, both because it was inhumane, but mostly because of the collateral damage it did to the ecosystem (stress on fish that were caught-and-released, lead sinkers, monofilament lines, snelled hooks and non-degradable stainless steel lures and leaders).
I'm not squeamish about killing animals. I love my steak and I wear leather shoes. I would have no problem with fishing if I enjoyed eating fish (which I don't). I'm not even opposed to hunting, although I wouldn't hunt for sport, I would hunt if I ate the game and if I knew how to prepare it for the table (which I don't).
I actually bought a hunting rifle (a Marlin .22 WMR bolt-action)in Pennsylvania, although I never used it for its intended purpose of shooting wild turkeys.
I still keep it for recreational target shooting, and for potential post-apocalyptic survival applications.

Well, I've never been into bullfighting. It's not a Cuban thing.

- Now bull riding. Watch the fellow pull up the strap around the testicles as the gate opens.
- Those are flank straps.
- See that strap back there? The one over the testes? That they pull at the last moment?
- All right.
- Absolutely the best demonstration of willful ignorance we could have. And it's only one of many.
- You aren't that stupid and you aren't blind. So what is it?
- Why is that cinch strap around the testes pulled when the gate opens? Why is that strap there?
- That strap around the testes, with the quick release feature, that is cinched when the gate opens, is for what?
- All right.
- Well, what do you think that strap around the testicles is for? The one that's tightened as the gate opens?
- 5 seconds of viewing would show you two straps. One pulled at gate opening.
