I agree the show is well produced, written and acted, and I'm a huge fan of both Cumberbatch and Freeman, but I'm a traditionalist when it comes to my Holmesiana.
I think the definitive Sherlock, and by far the most archaeologically correct, was Brit TV's long series with Jeremy Brett in the title role. Brett was Holmes as I always imagined him, tics, flair and all,
and he hardly ever wears that ridiculous deerstalker hat and Inverness cape. A top hat and black formal wear fits my image much better.
Brett is dead now (in the last few episodes his illness was obvious and unmistakeable); So we will not see his like again. Rest in Peace, Mr Brett. You will be missed.
