For extra credit, I suggest a 'compare and contrast' exercise of "Destination Moon" with Asimov's novella "The Martian Way", 1952. There's a good Wiki article on that, too. And bringing the arc of this thread all the way back to the same point it started: Isaac Asimov.
These themes go back, way back, all the way back to Joe McCarthy.
