Those are not unreasonable examples...
but Ukraine is larger than any of those countries and Ukraine is as bonded to Russia as Canada is to the US.
We were not happy about the examples you cited but we didn't spin out of control. Canada would be a far more bitter pill to swallow, as will the Ukraine for Russia if it works out that way.
I suspect that the party in power would not be re-elected if we lost Canada as our closest ally.
