The gods themselves...

But from Bungalow Bill and Rocky Raccoon's point of view...

1) As long as a person can die from an accident, homicide or suicide by a cause other than a gun, then guns are never at fault in any murder, suicide or accident.

2) As long as there is any gun violence in a country or municipality with any gun control laws, then its obvious that those laws are not the answer to the problem and there shouldn't be any.

3) Weapons, capacities and munitions designed specifically for military purposes should not be legally distinguished from sporting or self-defense firearms because manufacturers will simply modify their product specs to get around the regulations through technicalities. Therefore, there should be no effort whatsoever to categorize or regulate firearms by their intended use and weapons suited for urban combat can be safely distributed to the general public.

4) If any form of gun regulation or control can be shown to not be 100% effective at stopping gun violence, then clearly it should be abolished altogether. If a law can't be perfect, it shouldn't exist at all.

5) Any effort to restrict firearms availability to certain groups, such as criminals or the insane, is the first step in the slippery slope to taking away our guns.

6) And clearly, there is no such thing as "moderate" or "common sense" gun laws. Even the slightest or most reasonable attempt at regulation, control or restriction is a thinly disguised conspiracy to take away all firearms so that the people can be enslaved by the jack-booted statist puppet masters.

In other words, as long as it is possible for a person to die from any reason other than gunfire, and as long as we are not ready to confiscate all firearms on pain of death, then there should be absolutely no control, restriction or regulation of them whatsoever, since it is obvious that guns or their availability or ubiquity are not the cause any gun deaths. There can be no middle ground. Guns don't kill people, etc. QED.

In spite of all their noble talk of fighting tyranny and constitutional rights, the real reason Americans are obsessed with ballistic firepower is because they are terrified one day the blacks will show up at their door looking for revenge for slavery and Jim Crow. This attitude hasn't been caused by horse operas, crime melodramas and violent video games, these entertainments have reflected and serviced this pathology, not the other way round. So the citizenry agitate ceaselessly to promote policies that will only ensure that those blacks will show up heavily armed.

Haven't you noticed that the obsession with guns as an "American right" seems to be predominantly restricted to the longest established N European community? The people who brought the slaves over, the Anglo-Saxons and Scotch Irish. Yeah, go ahead and scoff. In your heart you know I'm right, even if you don't dare admit it to yourselves. At the root of all gun nuttery is good, old-fashioned all-American bigotry. Surely you've noticed the strong correlation between the two communities.

To simultaneously exploit, encourage and pander to this psychosocial dysfunction, the arms industry, through its trade association, the NRA, has lobbied, demagogued and agitated just as ceaselessly. After all, the merchants of death don't take sides when they can sell to both.

Against stupidity, the gods themselves contend in vain.
