Inurring the public mind . . .

It has always been the way of things.

The ancient Roman Games were designed to appease the ruling classes -- at first. Then, the ruling classes wanted to see their subjects reacting to the games. When the public got bored, it was time to feed the public to the lions. That livened up the booking.

Too much of anything becomes boring -- to all but the fanatics. …But, even then…

I consider myself a bit of a rocketry fanatic, and would turn down just about anything in any amount, if I could just sit on a Canaveral beach for a year and watch rockets being launched. Then, it might become so boring that you'd have to start paying me. Then, you probably couldn't pay me enough to sit through a single launch.

Enter Apathy.

And all his little, nitpicking friends:
Indifference, Wearisome, Boredom, Lethargy, Monotony, ending with a strong helping of Insignificance.

That which comes around, goes around -- and around -- and around … and around again…

Eventually, it’ll all go away. Then it’ll start all over, just to be something new and exciting -- for a while.

Quick example:
I love 4th of July fireworks.

Well, I use'ta.

Once you've experienced a live battalion-wide night fire with M16 and M60 tracer-fire, 90mm recoiless rifles (AKA bazookas), with you in command of the 81mm illumination and high explosive hits, and with Cobra air support and Stinger-fire taking the top off a couple mountains, all without the slightest bit of moon in the sky -- fireworks just sorta lay there.

...on the other hand...

The 1812 Overture, with Howitzer accompaniment still rocks.
