Those articles are interesting, well considered and worth reading. And ultimately futile.
They always have to end "we don't know". And the only thing we ever will "know" is if we aren't alone, if we find another civilization. And that will take time, maybe forever.
Something may be found which prevents life elsewhere. But how is it there is life here? And if there is life here, it's possible and can be replicated.
So, let's give it time. Nothing else to do anyway.
