Spiro Agnew
Agnew was busted for graft which was simply what had been done forever in Maryland. He was no better nor worse than any other politician, simply following in the Grand Tradition. Governor was a job with benefits.
Which didn't make it right. Perry was and is following in the Grand Tradition of Texas politics, and can justify his actions. That doesn't make them right.
We'll have to see if he was blatant enough to be illegal. Were I him, I'd trust a Texas jury to not only approve of his actions but to wreak havoc on those who dared to confront him.
