Mangoes are expensive.

That cocktail of ingredients, plus that 2% or less of "mango puree", probably approximates the taste of mango sufficiently to fool the consumer (or at least, con him into trying the product). Adding enough mango to matter would have probably added a few pennies per unit to the cost of producing this beverage, and that would come straight out of profits.

You should be thankful that at least you can follow up on this scam by reading the fine print on the label. The list of ingredients and nutritional information is required by law, although the manufacturers resisted it hammer and tongs because it was such an intrusive regulation, an unwarranted inconvenience, and interference in their FREEDOM (Reg. US Pat. Off.).

And you can bet your ass they are tirelessly working and spending millions on lobbyists to eliminate it. In the long run, buying PR flacks, lawyers and politicians is still cheaper than paying for mango puree.
