Who ever tried to make sense of a drug-addled popular song writer's lyrics? Personally I ignored them, as I would the philosophical meanderings of a 2 year-old.

As far as the singer refusing to explain the metaphor, he can't.

One of the best defenses of nonsense I've seen, though. You are right.
