"The dearest ambition of a slave..."

"...is not liberty but to have a slave of his own."

from The Book of The Thousand Nights And A Night (1885)
--Captain Sir Richard Francis Burton, English soldier, explorer and scholar.

Most of the men who fought so valiantly for the Confederacy did so for the freedom to own slaves, even though the vast majority of them had little hope of ever accumulating enough wealth to acquire any. And what is the sincere hope and desire of every wage slave but to have a business, and wage slaves of his own, to exploit?
