It does seem to me we've heard this before, AIDS, bird flu, but we've also relied upon antibiotics to stave those off.

"Bacteria becoming completely resistant to treatment - also known as the antibiotic apocalypse - could plunge medicine back into the dark ages."
Surgery would become impossible, cuts minor infections fatal, etc.
