If one side is understating, sometimes the other side is overstating. The history of the Gulf oil spill is a classic example of this.
The point I was making is that you were making it sound like Exxon wanted this to happen, or don't care that it did. Even from a raw "bottom line" standpoint, they have nothing to gain by spilling oil and a lot to lose, no matter how you measure it.
There are "bottom lines" that don't involve money. Keep this in mind.
