It appears that everything is in place.
An uncertain economy, a declining middle-class prosperity, a vanishing ethnic majority, military reverses abroad, foreign enemies, real and imagined, a breakdown of law and order, a hint of rebellion, an easily recognizable and identifiable enemy suitable for scapegoating, and a suite of bullyboy demagogues promising a strong hand and an easy way out.
All that's missing is "the state of emergency".
