Western mythology's never been particularly near or dear to my heart either, but imho you're probably not actually mything much.
The world these stories came out of was harsh, unpredictable and very dangerous. Romaticism, otoh, is a modern luxury. To find that one doesn't inspire the other probably isn't too surprising.
More than anything else, what I see in mythology is an expression of fear. That too, I don't find very surprising.
