If we want to believe in an afterlife, we will believe.
If we want to believe we will be reunited with our families, we will. Sometimes the loss of a loved one is so horrific that it can't be accepted.
To answer another post of yours, the Mormons' believe that dead people can be baptized into Mormonism, thus their interest in identifying them.
