I never cared for Sandler's comedy.
I didn't know he was a Republican until you mentioned it, I just thought he wasn't funny.
I did see one of his films I liked, about him being a Dad who hires a Spanish girl as an au pair. I don't recall it as being a comedy, but I thought his dramatic performance was excellent.
He used to do some comedy characters on late night talk shows I thought were pretty funny: "Opera Man" and "Cajun Man". But for the most part, his humor escaped me.
