Bachmann represents the worst in American politics, not because of her opinions on how government should be administered, but because of how she panders to the populist know-nothings that have been lately enlisted as shock troops of the Deep Right. She has attracted attention because she now leads the Fox/Limbaugh philosophical wing of the Party.

There are Republicans, some of them presidential candidates, whose Conservative credentials are authentic but who have not conducted themselves with the shrill fanaticism of the Tea Party crowd, the Palins and Bachmanns and others.

The GOP is making a deal with the devil here, they are unleashing some of the worst instincts of the American people, nativism, chauvinism, hatred, anti-intellectualism, unreasoning nationalism and exceptionalism, and most of all, fear.

TB, you, like many other thoughtful Republicans, smell victory in the water, and you are working yourself up to a feeding frenzy by drawing on the energy of this relatively small but active group of zealots. They will start a fire that will eventually consume you as well.
