You can look up the actual figures as they are published daily by both the Japanese Space Agency and American NSIDC.
These user friendly interactive charts will provide you with the actual Sea Ice Extent figures for every day of the year, for every year from 1979 to the present, for both the North and South poles, along with averages and standard deviations and several neat analysis tools. Even you business majors should be able to figure it out. The interfaces are modeled on Dow Jones graphic analysis tools. Knock yourself out.
BTW, we've neglected the Southern Ocean in these little graphical analyses, mostly because it is so much more stable than the Arctic. But this year, that appears to be changing. Something really huuuuge is happening down under. See for yourself.
