Classic defense of a faltering Glorious Leader: "He knows what he's doing". "He knows things we don't". "The others are all out to tear the great man down with their lies." "It takes time to Make America Great Again". Sure, give him time...to consolidate his power, and before you know it, your Reichstag is a smoldering ruin.
Actually, though, I don't subscribe to the flip side of the authoritarian delusion, Trump as SuperVillain. I see a moron empowered by inherited wealth to flail about wildly in hopes of if not eventually getting his own way, distracting the world from his stupidity. Trump's out of his depth, and I expect he'll drown sooner rather than later.
That'll teach him to raise the level of the swamp.
