Just remarking how the times force us to make that twisted calculation every time some new outrage occurs.
Murder is never an option in politics. First, you can't kill an idea, good or bad, by killing people. No one individual can sway an entire society. And even if you could, it is more likely to make a martyr of the victim, causing his movement to become stronger and give his followers an excuse to use extraordinary methods to try and silence your side.
Look at what happened to Julius Caesar. Sure, Brutus and the boys may have stopped a tyranny in a misguided attempt to keep the Republic. But what they got was civil war and an Emperor instead. And they paid with their lives.
If you're in the right place at the right time, you might be able to apply enough leverage to change the course of history. But you will have little ability to choose whatever new path it embarks on.
