...when Pharaoh was overthrown, his tomb was looted, his monuments brought down, his likeness defaced and his statues knocked over. Wherever his name appeared in stone it was chiseled out, hammered away: in papyrus, it was burned or cast into the Nile.

But today, the blank spaces in the record and the new heads on his images speak more eloquently than what replaces them. Today the scholars and historians ask "Who is it that was so hated that little men sought to remove all memory of him?" And no one remembers the names of those who sought to change the past more to their liking.
