I was taught, (actually it was hammered into me) respect. Respect for the elderly, respect for educators, respect for other people's property, and respect for the police. If an officer was disrespectful, I was to be polite and wait for my day in court, if it came to that. That never happened. Granted I was a lower middle income white kid and didn't suffer the prejudice and mistrust people of color do.
But you don't have to look far to see the flipside of your coin. You must have seen YouTube videos of cops suffering verbal abuse, non compliance with legitimate requests, and sometimes injury or death. The most extreme example of disdain for authority is Antifa. I'm sure you're aware of their tactics.
Respect for authority is a cornerstone of the rule of law. We have mechanisms for removing people from power. Elections, the court system, and what you're hoping for, impeachment.
I understood your point. Like I said, this was an aside.
