As we can see in the post you made below, "NRA host taunts Parkland teens", when faced with a compelling opposing view, their instinctive reaction is not "You are mistaken", or even "Your biases are clouding your judgement". It is always, "You are maliciously lying just because you're out to get us." They simply cannot avoid the conviction that all their opposition is due to a conspiracy working some personal vendetta against them. There is a clinical term for this: paranoia.
They are convinced that their enemies are not just wrong, but engaged in some kind of plot to get them. I think that reveals something profoundly significant about their character, not to mention a profound weakness in their tactics.
For example, scientists are not just wrong about global warming, "they are lying about it because it benefits their own career (or their statist politics) at the expense of our business and way of life." In their twisted universe, their enemies are not just mistaken, they are villains, and they are villains for a specific reason..
