The Barr memo was an audition for the job, nothing more.

He may very well have done it to get appointed to AG so he could then stab the Trumpster in the back and come out smelling like a rose in a post-Trump Republican Washington. I have no doubt the President is confident Barr is his man, but that doesn't mean he is.

The Donald does not really inspire loyalty, not the way he is always throwing his followers over the side whenever he needs to lighten ship. And Barr is, after all, a New Republican, a Trump GOP animal. These people are unapologetic careerists, they have no loyalty, neither personal nor ideological.
