Roy Cohn, adviser and mentor to Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon and Donald Trump, was a closet gay himself who often attacked his political enemies with charges of homosexuality--whether they were gay or not. And we've all heard the rumors about J. Edgar Hoover.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with being gay, or to oppose homosexuality for sincere religious or moral reasons, but to employ this sort of cynical hypocrisy to divide and inflame the nation by the deliberate exploitation of bigotry and hate is what seems to characterize the modern Conservative movement.

I can't stress this more. The Right isn't about hate or religion, nationalism or morality, misogyny or anything else. Its about targeting and aggravating everything hateful and obscene and divisive in the society to push their economic agenda.

Follow the money and everything else makes sense.
